3/4 Writing Extension Group - short story competition
As part of our 3/4 writing extension group last term, each student was asked to write a short story of 250 words maximum to enter the Launceston Competitions. Then.... Covid-19 struck! This was very disappointing for the students as they had planned carefully, written and edited multiple drafts, completed their final drafts (being very careful that they had not gone over the word limit!) and we were literally just about to mail them off!
Therefore, to recognise all of the students' hard work, Mrs Rooney enlisted the help of a 'friend of the school'. Mrs Kathy O'Sullivan was our beloved St Thomas More's librarian for many years, and she was happy to act as a 'celebrity judge' for a competition on a smaller scale.
With Mrs O'Sullivan's help, we have decided on the following:
1st place: Marina Stagg with "Crystal Realm"
2nd Place: Maeve Kok-Conners with "the Family Secret"
3rd Place: Sofia Lawrence with "What on Earth...."
Highly commended was Zoe Limbrick's "Mouldy Underpants"
Above Expectation was Lewis Moore with "Chase at the Centre of the Earth" and Alexis Harmey with "Saving Kayla"
Participation awards go to: Reuben Phillips, Milla Johnston and Molly Biggelaar
A big congratulations to all the entrants. You worked very hard on this and we loved reading your stories! The winning entries have been published for you all to now enjoy!
