St Thomas More Feast Day
On Monday 22nd June our whole school celebrated the Feast Day of St Thomas More. Each class was asked to choose from three options- the children could come dressed up as 'Sir Thomas' himself, or someone else from the "Tudor period", or they could have a go at making Sir Thomas' "Collar of Esses", or they could wear plain clothes and bring along something to share.
We had a lot of fun with the day- it was so exciting to see the various costumes and creations- many children went to a lot of effort to get into the spirit of things! Each class also experienced a special visit from "Sir Thomas More", who talked to the students a little bit about what his achievements and beliefs were, and what life was like in England 500 years ago! For example, Thomas More believed that education was very important, something which every child deserved to receive, no matter their class or gender. He educated all his children, including his girls. Thomas More also loved pets- he has been quoted as saying "Love me, love my dog", a sentiment many of our families would agree with!
We then enjoyed a whole-school Liturgy on Tuesday with Father Ben and Deacon Chathura. It was timely for us to thank God for the wonderful example we have in St Thomas More- the way he used his gifts to help others, his courage and complete devotion to God. We prayed for guidance that we might do the same in our time here at St Thomas More's Catholic Primary School.
