Grade 6 Book Club
During the second half of the year, a selection of Grade Six students have been meeting twice a week for Book Club, which is a reading extension group. This is an opportunity for students to read a challenging text, answer a range of questions each week and take part in various discussions and activities.
The text which was chosen was entitled "Chung, Hyo, Ye: Tales of Filial Devotion, Loyalty, Respect and Benevolence from the History and Folklore of Korea". Certainly a long title, and quite a challenging read! The students have all been open-minded and thoughtful as they progressed through the text, with many interesting discussions ensuing.
Our final culminating task was to write an essay for a national competition, which was the first time these students have had to write in such a way. They all worked very hard to complete their essays by the due date, and we are now waiting to hear the results, which will be decided early December.
We will be featuring a selection of the student's essays in the school newsletter over the coming weeks. We as teachers have been inspired and moved by what the students have written, and we hope you enjoy them also!
