Principal's Message
Dear Families,
For our G5/6 parents involved in Basketball last weekend and our G3/4 parents this weekend, it is always a great opportunity to watch our children participate in the Primary Schools Basketball Championship. Firstly, I would like to congratulate our G5/6 Div 2 Boys Team who came second, losing the grand final by only 1 point in a nail biter of a match, and all our teams who played on the weekend. In every match I saw our children consistently playing their best, supporting and encouraging each other as a team and just being good sports. This is something we can all be proud of! I would also like to extend our gratitude to our coaches and managers, who have been preparing the teams for weeks and our parents who helped on the day with scoring. Thank you, without your help, these days are not possible. And finally, a big thanks to Mrs Zegveld for coordinating the event, it is a big task.
After the sad news late Monday about the passing of Ms Jessica Borton, a much-loved music tutor, it was great to see our Foundation Band and Strings at their combined schools’ workshop on Thursday. From all accounts, the children had a great day and their music sounded great as well!
October is Catholic Mission month, and yesterday the Captains, Mrs Taylor and I went to a Mass celebrating our mission work. During the sermon, Deacon Michael shared with us some of the work Catholic Missions are doing in Thailand and reminded us how privileged we are. He used the example of soccer, a game commonly played on our playground. Our children have access to soccer balls and grassy fields to play in, but many children around the world do not. Deacon Michael held up a ball made of plastic bags, to show the students what some children around the world use to play soccer. He also challenged us to raise some money to help those less fortunate than us. Our Junior Joeys will be taking up this challenge.
I am pleased to inform you that the materials to repair our fort have arrived and we expect it to be repaired in early November. Our overall playground improvement is progressing, we are now in the final stages of the planning process. When the plans are complete, I will share them with you.
Have a great week.
