From the Principal

On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop. Mary was a co-founder of the Order of St Joseph, with Julian Tenison Wood 1866, who then began our school in 1938. Josephite spirituality and action is centred on helping others. Today these women are active all over the world and the Josephite Order strive to draw on the strength and resilience of God’s love, living simply, engaging with others to meet human needs, being advocates for the voiceless, caring for the earth, wondering at nature and creating homely communities. We are so privileged to have active Josephite nuns around our school actively helping and praying for our community.

SOME WONDERFUL SAYINGS FROM ST MARY MACKILLOP

God gave me such a sense of his watchful presence (1873)
God’s love is too deep for words to express (1870)
Believe in the whisperings of God in your own heart (1868)
Have courage no matter what your crosses are (1890)

The Mary MacKillop story is just amazing: of a young girl and her devotion to God, her hard life; her fortuitous meeting with Father Julian Tenison Woods, and of her strength and determination to provide practical help to those in need. Below is her story as sung by our students at the Mass.

A Cross of Stars

Across these great lands she brought the Good News
With courage and love in her heart
That faith and hope and love may live
Beneath a Cross of Stars, beneath a Cross of Stars.

1. Early in life she heard God’s call,
The call of Christ to stand with the poor
To serve like Joseph, to serve in deed.
To teach, to love, to answer a need.

2. Soon others saw Mary’s shining light
They came from far and they came from wide
To stand with the poor and teach with the young
To see that Christ’s song would one day be sung.

3. “Have courage no matter what your crosses are”,
This Mary knew when times were hard
She trusted in God, and God did provide
And Mary’s love traveled far and wide.

4. Across a vast land from north to south
And to the land of the Long White Cloud
She carried her dream, she followed her call
So that our faith would live in us all.

PLEASE PRAY EACH DAY FOR OUR SACRAMENTAL CANDIDATES. This prayer can be especially heartfelt for the person praying as well as for the candidate.

Hugh Daly, Subi Daly, Lachlan McInnes, Scarlett Morrison, Jasmine Smart, Elena Darby-Rodriguez, Felix Darby-Rodriguez.

Loving God, we ask you to bless these children.
May they always feel your presence in their hearts and lives.
We take them to our hearts as you take them to your heart.
We pray that by our word and example we will help them along their journey of faith.
May our school community always be a place where they feel welcome and cherished.
We make this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen

Book Week

Hello everyone

CBCA Book Week runs from 19-26 August this year with the theme "Escape to Everywhere". This is a wonderful week to celebrate Australian children's literature and this year's theme highlights the power of reading in allowing children to escape their own lives to a place of wonder.

The shortlisted books are now on display in the library and Kathy O'Sullivan will be sharing many of these with classes in the weeks leading up to Book Week. The shortlisted books are not for borrowing and are to remain in the Library.

During Book Week, students will receive a small token featuring the beautiful artwork of renowned illustrator Freya Blackwood. There is no dress-up parade this year.

Happy Book Week

School Drop Off & Pick Up

Please be aware that we are monitoring pick up and drop off on Campbell St and Abbott St. Both Carol and Kurt are now able to issue parking violation notices through the council.

The 5-minute drop off zones do not allow for you to leave your car and enter the school. If you wish/need to come into the school grounds, please park in another parking zone.

Our new ‘No Parking’ teardrop banners on Campbell St are working well so far, and fewer people are parking on the yellow lines. Thank You.

**********Campbell Street pickup: can ALL PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS please abide by known road rules when picking up students - no parking on yellow lines and 5 minute pick up and drop off only. If you pick up slightly later at 3:10 - 3:20 there is space for parking.***********

SOME PARENTS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED TURNING ACROSS ROADS INTO DRIVEWAYS WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF STUDENTS. THIS IS NOT SAFE.

Lunch Box Suggestions

If students bring the equivalent of two lunches to eat in our two lunch breaks they are less hungry in the afternoon. Two lots of sandwiches, or a sandwich then a wrap; with a muffin, fruit; vegetables… in order to enhance their brain function, memory and concentration.

Nude Food Day

The SRC has reinstated “Nude Food Tuesday”. This involves bringing food to school that has minimal or no wrapping in order to help our school be a cleaner environment and less rubbish needs to go to the tip.
