It is not enough that we wait patiently. We are expected to be industrious as we await the advent of the reign of God. We have all been entrusted with talents that really belong to God, and we must use these talents to the best of our ability in the interim between the Lord’s departure and his final return. The ideal wisdom figure in the first reading is a model of such industriousness.
Fidelity to the reign of God requires that we be willing to take risks. We do not know the time of the Lord’s coming, and so there will have to be a kind of tentativeness to all of our plans. We will never be able to be certain that they will be brought to fruition. We must spend and be spent without the assurance that we will be able to reap the rewards of our investment. To refuse to risk is to refuse to trust.
If we have been wise and have industriously employed the Lord’s talents, which were entrusted to us, we will be richly rewarded. However, if we have not realised the potential that is possessed by our talents, and if we have not employed them as they were meant to be employed, we will be punished. The foolish man in the gospel knew that the householder was exacting. He had some idea of what to expect. He made his choice and he had to accept the consequences of that choice.

Dear Families,
Last weekend our G5/6 Basketball Teams played in a gutsy competition at the Launceston Primary Basketball Competition. Although none of our teams made the finals - I think there was cling wrap over our hoop! - all our players played their best and made STM proud. I need to commend all of our players. In the games I saw, every single player continuously put in their best effort; even in defeat they never gave up, held their heads high and fully supported each other. Well done everyone. Competitions like this are not possible without the support of you, our families. I would like to thank our coaches, managers and everyone else who supported our students over the weekend. All the best for our G3/4 Teams this weekend.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, it was great to have our 2021 Kinders in for their orientation day. From all reports our little ones enjoyed their morning, with many of them being very excited they were attending “big school”. It was also lovely to be able to spend some time with our new parents at our school introduction and morning tea. We welcome them to the St Thomas More’s family.
Following our Wednesday’s Kinder parent presentation our captains and Mrs Pearce represented St Thomas More’s at the Launceston Remembrance Day Service in Royal Park. I thank our captains for the wonderful job they did.
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been receiving some medication for students that is not in its original packaging. Please note that any medication that you require your child to take at school must be in its original packaging, this is to ensure we are certain of the medication we are giving your child. All medication is to be handed into the office with the exception of an asthma puffer.
Our MJR focus for November is “Okay, with a Smile.” I hope your children are remembering to respond with an “ok” and smile to your requests for help at home. If you have any stories, I’d love to hear them.
God Bless,
Shayne Kidd
On Thursday we, the four school captains, and Mrs Pearce went to Royal Park for the Remembrance Day service at the Launceston Cenotaph. It was a great experience to be a part of. We really enjoyed the music played and the laying of our school wreath.
Together we four laid the wreath on the rear end of the cenotaph. Our wreath was the same colours as the school light blue, white, navy and yellow. As we were going to lay wreaths we walked past 2 soldiers that were standing silent and still pointing their guns to the sky.
We also had the minute silence but first, they played The Last Post then we had our minute silence. It was still good to be remembering all the soldiers that fought in the war.
On behalf of STM, we would like to thank the Mayor of Launceston- Mr. Albert Van Zetten, the President of the RSL club- Graeme Barnett, the Secretary of the RSL club- Peter Williams, the City of Launceston RSL band, Bugler- Mr. Ian Reeves, City of Launceston choir- Vox Harmony, Chaplin Vic Hinds and Catafalque Party Dismounts.
Lest We Forget.

Emergency Practice
Within the next few weeks, whilst at recess or lunch we will hold an unannounced emergency practice with staff and students, to test our response to a potential scenario that staff identify a threat warranting the school go into lockdown (opposite to evacuation).
Like for fire evacuation drills, we recognised the worth to test this process. We have plans in place to make this practice as least disruptive as able.
If you have queries please call our Safety Officer, Simon Natoli on 0400 105 476
