In every life there is a struggle between obedience and disobedience, and this struggle takes various twists and turns. At times we are willing to conform to regulations set from the outside, and at times we are not. We are invited to choose in favour of the reign of God, or we are free to ignore the invitation. Those who are fundamentally righteous sometimes fall from grace, and people considered evil to the core sometimes reform their lives. What ultimately counts are not the promises made, but the actions taken.
We are called to discipleship, and there may well be urgency in this call, but it is an invitation that is to be accepted freely. As is the case with life itself, options are placed before us all the way along the road. We are invited to choose in favour of the reign of God, or we are free to ignore the invitation. However, the invitation always remains open to us, because God’s desire for our acceptance is persistent and enduring.
The real choice set before us today is the imitation of Christ. The specific characteristic of Christ today is his humility. Since demanding one’s rights can undermine the loving quality of community, Jesus’ humility is offered for our imitation. It is very clear that whichever aspect of discipleship we examine, some aspect of community is also present. To be a disciple of Jesus is to follow him humbly as a member of a believing community.

Dear Families,
I wish all our families a happy, relaxing and safe two week break. Your children have worked hard this term and deserve a rest. A big thank you to all our staff here at St Thomas More’s who have gone above and beyond to ensure your children were able to participate in many extra curricular activities this term.
On Wednesday we braved the rain and enjoyed the drying sun during our Athletics Carnival. This year was a little different, not only did we have restrictions to navigate, we also included our Preps to G2. It was a wonderful day and from what the children have told me, everyone enjoyed themselves. It was great to see all our students participate with enthusiasm. A big thanks to our volunteer helpers and staff, without your help days like this cannot happen. We still have a couple more events to run, before we can announce the winning house. As it was raining today, we have postponed these events to early next term.
A reminder that school resumes for students on Tuesday 13th October 2020.
We have made some teaching appointments for 2021, Mrs Taylor, Ms McLauchlan and Mrs Kidd will continue as class teachers, Miss O'Neill will be our Student Support Coordinator and we welcome Miss Kate Nichols who has been teaching at St Joseph's Rosebery. Mrs Campbell will be leaving us at the end of the year to take up a teaching position at St Joseph's Rosebery, we wish her all the best. We will announce teachers' classes once we finalise all appointments which will be mid to late next term.
On Sunday we celebrate Migrant and Refugee Sunday. We have a number of migrant and refugee families who are part of our St Thomas More’s family and we are glad they are part of our community. Jesus, too, was a refugee, having to flee to Egypt as he was in danger. Over the weekend you might like to take the time to pray for families caught in refugee camps or under persecution, that they are able to find a place that is safe and welcoming.
Have a great break, stay safe, and see you all next term.
God Bless,
Shayne Kidd
With four seasons in one day, we had a fantastic time at the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday! The students showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship during the day. Please enjoy some photo's of our activities....
Planning for the 2021 school year is well underway. If you are aware of any changes to your circumstances for the coming year and may be leaving the school, please notify the office at your earliest opportunity.
Please be aware families are obligated through the Terms of Enrolment to provide written notice of at least 10 school weeks prior to their withdrawal of a student from the school. This includes withdrawal prior to the start of the school year.
If you have any queries, please contact the office.
Term 4 commencing Tuesday, 13th October
Please note that Monday, 12th October is a Staff Spirituality day. Term 4 commences for students on Tuesday 13th October.
Congratulations to students who have received 25 stickers in their sticker booklets. These stickers are given to students displaying positive and respectful behaviour in the playground. They are a great role model for others. Well done!
NAIDOC Week 2020: Always Was, Always Will Be
NAIDOC week 2020 theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. This year we will be celebrating and acknowledging NAIDOC week on the 8-15 November. After discussions with some of our students we have decided to create a sculpture/mobile to acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal Peoples connection to land, sea, sky and waterways.
Attached is the Parish Bulletin for this coming Sunday, 20 September. Every blessing to all of you,
Fr Mark Freeman
