Pentecost is called the birthday of the church because before Pentecost, there really was no church. Jesus had ascended back into the heavens, the Apostles were hanging around, scared and confused, and nobody knew what to do. Going out to baptise people and preach about Jesus was the last thing they had in mind because their lives would be in danger.
But Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit – the force that turned a bunch of frightened, mixed-up folks into church. There was a rush of wind, tongues of fire, and then suddenly there was courage, knowledge, direction and commitment! Everyone started speaking and was understood, no matter what the language of the listener was! These were saints suddenly on fire with the Holy Spirit. And it all began with the wind and fire of the Spirit.
What changes in you do you wish the Spirit could blow your way? How can you cooperate with the Spirit? In what ways do you need more courage, knowledge, direction or commitment? What else might you need?
In what ways are you and your parish like the disciples before Pentecost? In what ways are you and your parish like the disciples after Pentecost?
When people speak about your school, would they say that it has school spirit? What do they mean by that? How is school spirit like the Holy Spirit?

Dear Families,
What a great week we have had with the return of all our students. It has been so wonderful welcoming you all back.
A big thank you for all your support this week with our changes to drop-off and pick-up routines. It’s been good to see the independence of the children as they walk into school. Also, thank you for respecting social distancing.
With pick-up in the afternoons, I would like to suggest, if you are in the 5-minute zone and your child is not ready to be collected, instead of waiting, please drive around the block and then try again to collect your child. This small action will help keep traffic flowing and prevent line-ups over our school crossings.
We wish to welcome a number of new students to our school; Eyobed and Banahier in Kinder, Kieven in Prep, Dawit in Grade 1, Raghavi in Grade 2 and Yoel and Satya in Grade 4.
As mentioned previously I will be participating in this year’s Vinnies Sleepout. This year the sleepout is to take place at our homes, because of coronavirus precautions so I will be sleeping out in my yard. Thank you for people who have already supported me by donating to Vinnies. Monies raised from this event goes to help local people in need. If you would like to help, please visit this link to sponsor me https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/sponsor?kw=shayne+kidd
The Sleepout is on Thursday June 18.
Have a great week and keep safe.
God Bless,
Shayne Kidd
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday this week, St Thomas More's participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. In our classrooms, we shared the story "Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas" by Lucinda Gifford. NSS is a great way to share the joy of reading and promote Australian authors and publishers. This year there were over 1 million participants across the globe.
