The gospel readings for the Sundays just before the feast of Pentecost are all taken from Jesus’ last discourse in the Gospel of John. In them, Jesus prepares his followers for his death and resurrection and his ultimate exaltation.
This Sunday Jesus says that it is through his death that he goes to God. However, it is as he is raised up in crucifixion that he is exalted. The author of the epistle declares him ‘chosen and precious in the sight of God’ but it is as the stone that was rejected that he is so honoured. If we ever wonder how the exaltation of Jesus will effect us, we have Jesus’ own words of explanation. He promises to go ahead of us and make arrangements for us to share in his exaltation in the house of the one he calls Father. All we need do is follow him.
Today’s readings suggest that the exaltation of Jesus is most dramatically manifested in the character of the community of those called by his name. It is revealed in the way Christians settle their differences so that all parties are treated fairly. Jesus is the cornerstone upon which this community is built, and the community mirrors his influence in its life. Christians also participate in the exaltation of Jesus by spreading the good news to others. In Acts we see how the witness of life and the preaching of the word of God increased the number of believers.

Dear Families,
For all our mums out there, we wish you a happy and blessed Mothers’ Day.
RETURNING TO SCHOOL
It is clear that in the Tasmanian community we have done an amazing job curbing COVID-19. We are in a really good place.
You may be aware that the Tasmanian Premier made a statement this afternoon flagging the timeline for returning to learning at school. In managing the Government schools’ return to school, the nominated dates were the 25 May for Kindergarten to Year 6 and Years 11 and 12, and then 9 June for students in Years 7-10. The Government in consultation with Catholic Education Tasmania has recognised that each school site needs to develop a plan to support families returning school and each individual Catholic schools will be considering what best suits their own context. I have included the CET media release for your information. We have set up staff meetings for discussions on Monday and I will provide further information about returning to school next week.
Please remember that we have all been asked to continue Learning @ Home where possible for at least the next two weeks.
While we won’t have a definitive return to school plan until early next week, I can confirm that our current learning at home program will continue next week. Early next week I will communicate the St Thomas More's return to learning at school plan. There will then be an opportunity for families to work with the school to discuss and refine processes in place.
From all reports this week I believe we have all settled into some good routines around Learning @ Home. The feedback I have received has been very positive and I believe that all children are participating. I wish to thank you all again for your support and patience, we are here and willing to support all families during this time.
For our families who need to send their children to school, everything is going well with your children onsite however I need to ask you to please keep your children at home if they are sick. There are still lots of other viruses that are easily spread amongst children and potentially to our staff. This has the potential to impact on all our children’s learning.
A reminder that our school site is still closed for all adults, apart from our staff, this is in line with Government health messages. If you need to come onto our site during school hours you must first talk with a staff member. A staff member is at our gate during pick up and drop off. Please call the office on 6337 7200 any other time and wait for directions.
This year I have offered to participate in the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout. The Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout raises money to support our homeless people and the way our year has started I believe they are going to need all the support they can get. If you can, I encourage you to donate a little to the sleepout. To donate to the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout please follow this link https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/sponsor?kw=shayne+kidd. To find out more about Vinnies and who they support please follow this link https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/
To help us promote our wonderful school a few G5/6 students have created a promotional video. Please feel free to share. Also, a reminder that Kinder enrolments close on Friday 29th May 2020.
Have a great week and keep safe.
God Bless,
Shayne Kidd
Yr 3/4 have been working on procedural texts and have produced some amazing pieces of work using digital media. Here is one that a student created with his Dad at home.
Fr Ben is live streaming our student liturgies to students who are Learning @ Home at home. This week the yr 5/6's had a liturgy with Fr Ben and Deacon Chathura which celebrated the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The weather had not been kind to one side of our Humpy. With the help of Mr Rik and a mallet we strengthen our shelter it is as good as new again. We noticed how dry the ground was inside our Humpy and how strong the branches were that were supporting its shape, we were all kept nice and dry.
STM's new softshell jacket is now available at Midfords.
'I like it because it has lots of pockets' Isla yr 3
'It is really comfortable and warm' Lulu yr 4
It is now time to return your Project Compassion 2020 boxes to the office. Thank you for supporting such a great cause.
